What is wrought iron? : definition
Wrought:
1. (of metals) beaten out or shaped by hammering.
2.made or fashioned in the specified way..
Wrought iron:
a tough malleable form of iron suitable for forging or rolling rather than casting, obtained by puddling pig iron while molten. It is nearly pure but contains some slag in the form of filaments
Wrought iron normally is heated in a forge ( with fire) and worked with tools on the anvil.
Wrought iron is another durable member of the ferrous metals family.
Wrought iron is an alloy with very little carbon content.
Why is it called mild steel?
Mild steel is named for its low carbon content, which makes it malleable, ductile, and less brittle. These properties allow for easy processing, such as rolling, forging, and welding.
